Sleeping Beauty Hike

Image
July 28, 2021 Two friends and I took advantage of a cool, sunny day to enjoy a hike in the mountains. We took ourselves up the east side of Lake George, NY to the Dacy Clearing parking lot. We hiked the loop, stopping at Bump's Pond to admire the bucolic setting, then headed up to the summit. While not a difficult hike, the 1400 ft elevation gain gets the heart pumping. The view at the top was gorgeous, as always. The view is easily 270 degrees; you can see east to VT, south down the lake, and west for a view of the high peaks in the distance. It was a lovely hike with good company. Bump's Pond Summit of Sleeping Beauty looking southwest over Lake George

Summer Fun

Wednesday 7/21 After a lovely coffee with Janice, I packed up my bike and headed to Southbury to spend a day off with Theresa. I took the backroads down, stopped for blueberries to go with the lemon cake I brought, and enjoyed the country scenes for the afternoon. Theresa made shrimp with veg over rice for dinner and we had a nice visit with John and Craig. They are both working guys now, which is so different to the little boys they used to be not so very long ago. Thursday 7/22 Thursday Theresa and I headed to Hammonasset beach. We got on our bikes first and rode through the park, then headed onto the greenway bike trail through some woods. The final part of the journey took us through Madison to Guilford and the East River State Boat Launch. Lots of Osprey and other shore birds had me snapping photos, but a kid catching the strangest looking fish on the West Wharf really grabbed our attention. After the long ride back to the parking lot, we were too tired and hungry to sit on the

Well, my plan to document the pandemic year did not work out so well. I will just carry on and start from where I am. July 18 2021 Took a lovely walk/hike in Poestenkill Community Forest with neighborfriend Annette. It's been raining daily for the past few weeks so I imagined the fungi kingdom would be exploding. I wasn't wrong. We wandered along the fairy path as well, and admired/critiqued the offerings. Got home in time to enjoy cilantro lime pesto shrimp on fettucine as I watched the latest rain from my warm and dry home.      Perfect little shrooms. Purple fungus!
