A Week In Summer

Image
8-29-21 to 9-5-21 There, I've fixed it! I'll post a week at a time and be caught up quicker. 8-29 I've discovered a new biking route from home so no car required. The roads are mostly lightly traveled but I do make sure I'm brightly colored and seen, then I throw a prayer up to keep me safe and I'm off. Into town first, then out towards Eagle Mills and farm land and creeks. So pretty, hilly, and a great workout. 8-30 Off to visit Mom and the family. Dinner at the Chicken BBQ in Pennsylvania, a trip to the ReStore to get Corelle for Janice, and walks to keep me in shape. 9-3-21 After a meandering trip back home across NYS backroads and the Thruway for a bit, I was very restless. I asked neighborfriend Annette to take a quick hike to Barberville Falls. It was raging with all the rain we've had and made a nice racket from the parking lot. Then we did the ridge trail to get our blood pumping and our minds calm. We sat on a large boulder at the edge of the stream ju...

Garden down time

8-26-21 I've been falling behind on posting by a month! How does that happen? Anyway, I'm here to catch up. Between my adventures, I'm usually attending to the mundane chores of life - processing garden veg, shopping, laundry, the usual. I do keep myself entertained in the garden. Here are a few of the creatures I share my morning coffee with.

Brant Lake Paddle

Image
8/25/21 Concert or no, I had an early day to prepare for - a paddle with Ann Marie and Amyjean on Brant Lake. What a beautiful day and a picture perfect lake. We found the boat launch with no trouble and headed out to paddle this Adirondack beauty.  Not 15 minutes out, we were met by some loons. Their call always enchants me. I thought I recorded the call but user error meant that I turned the video off rather than on and missed it. We paddles for about 6 hours and there were no places to get out and rest or eat until we found a few meters of rocky shoreline by a road. That is where we finally had a swim and a White Claw and lots of laughter. We headed for the parking lot afterwards and my arms were shaky what with 6 hours of paddling in my short, wide, not very agile kayak. A wonderful summer day I will treasure in any case.

A surprising Day

8/24/21 The day started out wonderfully and just got better. Janice came for our weekly coffee in the garden and as we caught up, she mentioned she was headed to SPAC for a James Taylor and Jackson Brown concert. Did I want to come? I searched for a reason to say no, but finding none, I said a reluctant yes! We retreated to the house to buy tickets online without too much trouble. Then we needed camp chairs because we bought lawn seats. I called up neighborfriend Annette to see if she had chairs. She wanted to know why I needed them and I told her SPAC. She asked "Can I come too?" Of course, was my reply and she had chairs as well. So I made a turkey sandwich picnic dinner, added some mini wine bottles, and off we went.  What a nostalgia trip! The music, the crowd, the memories.
