Kanab Tour
October 7, 2021
About an hour south of our AirBnB is the little bustling town of Kanab, Utah. Susan booked us a full day tour with Coral Cliffs Tours so we met our guide Raymond (excellent guide) at the BLM visitor center. No, not Black Lives Matter (though they certainly do) but the Bureau of Land Management. We got into his rugged jeep and set off for our first stop - PeekaBoo slot Canyon. (Note to the well endowed women - double up on those sport bras. Its a very bumpy ride and you'll be herding those girls the whole way if they aren't strapped down. I'm looking at you Lyne!) The Canyon was so pretty.
Kanab is home to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary where we stopped to use the facilities. We got to pet a sweet old pup and talk to the very nice people there. We stopped at the cemetary for pets and a guy came over to discuss it. All the red flags went up at this organization, and while just a rescue now, had cult like roots in its past. We of course Googled the shit out of it.
Next we went to Candy Corn Mountain because the Inchworm was too storm damaged to make it. Luckily, I had no idea what the Inchworm looks like so I wasn't too disappointed to miss it. The toadstools at Candycorn Mt were nice, but compared to the hoodoos at Bryce - meh.
Last stop was the Grand Chamber and it was grand. I climbed up a small hill in front of it and the scale of the thing is evident. Lyne is standing in the chamber if you look really carefully.
We headed back to LaVerkin about 4 pm and as luck would have it we found a liquor store in Arizona. We stopped, but it wasn't a great selection, so we began to embrace our almost sober sojourn in Utah. We had our last delicious dinner at The Pig's Ear in Hurricane, Utah. Very good food but hard to take the 3 oz. wine pours as mandated by the state of Utah!
