Mid November

Walks in the neighborhood are getting a bit dull, but I was delighted by a few sights this week.

Milkweed seeds taking flight.

This made me long for a summer day. I have never seen it on the lake before - it's a great idea.

The cloud sculptures.

Whatever day this was (joy of retirement), I felt I barely started the day by running a couple errands, and making some phone calls. I realized I could probably get a walk in, yet I was surprised that the sun was setting on my way back. These short days are challenging.

Thursday turned out very differently than I planned. I was supposed to get a tooth crowned, but the nice weather forecast caused me to cancel it in favor of a group bike ride. Then, almost everyone on the bike ride cancelled so I scratched that plan. I texted a few friends, got some free passes from the library and three of us headed over to Vermont to see Hildene, the summer home of Robert Lincoln, Abe's only son to make it to adulthood.

This is the back of the house and a formal garden. I must return in spring.

The linen closet - such organisation!

I think this was one of the daughter's bedrooms.

The grounds were impressive an include a working goat farm and creamery. I bought some cheese but haven't tried it yet.

We wandered down to Manchester in search of lunch and this guy was checking us out.

The Northshire Bookstore was worth exploring, after our lunch at Zoey's cafe.

Friday night, a concert at the Egg in Albany with Susan, Amyjean, and Ann Marie. We had a really nice dinner at Cafe Capriccio, where Susan assured the staff we'd be very low maintenance. We then proceeded to be very high maintenance with a finger pinched by a chair, an ice pack required, a table change as two members of our party did not show, and a free bottle of wine for all our trouble. I'm hoping that our constant laughter and politeness during the chaos helped.

The Egg is an architectural wonder according to Amyjean, the architect.
Kevin Bacon quipped that there were a couple of Bacon's in the Egg.

The Bacon Brothers put on a great show including the Footloose finale.

  2. Love the clouds although the short days are a challenge. I prefer to do yardwork in the late afternoon when the grass is dry but I don't have that luxury now. I too am waiting for a crown and dealing with a temporary. Ugh, getting old(er) means everything disintegrates, including teeth. :(
