Burlington VT

The friends getaway to Burlington was lots of fun and the weather mostly cooperated.

We drove up on Monday and I stopped in a couple of quaint New England towns along the way. This is Middlebury VT. I just caught the tail end of their Memorial Day parade.

Vermont is full of covered bridges - this is one of three I went through.

We found an Earth Clock in the style of Stonehenge which I was fascinated with.

I intend to build a mini version in my garden.

Susan on the Causeway. The ferry was not running, but we enjoyed the journey anywqy.

Just a great blue heron hanging out on the rocks.

Causeway selfie. This made me remember my last trip here when my daughter was in high school and we did this bike trail.

This pano picture is a perfect depiction of the day. We watched rain showers over the Adirondacks and a few made it across the lake and we got a little wet. Mostly the weather was warm and sunny.

Apres ride drinks.

If a 24 mile morning ride wasn't enough, we joined the Sunset Chasers local group for a ten mile ride around town with music and a chance to meet the locals. We are ready to ride again! Ann Marie stayed back at the AirBnB.

My helmet shows we got a little wet.

I liked the poster so much, I asked if I could buy one and the ride leader gave us each one for free.

The third day as a bit chill. After a bit of shopping, we boarded the Spirit Of Ethan Allen for a narrated sight seeing cruise.

It really is a small world. Ann Marie was looking out the window of the house we were staying in and saw the son of her best friend (now deceased) walking down the street. She ran out to see if it was really him and it was. He relocated here with his family from North Carolina a couple of years ago.

He happened to be playing Irish music with a group of local musicians at the St. John's Club down the street from out rental house. We stopped in to enjoy the music.

Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks was the view from town.

Before our drive home we stopped at the Shelburne Museum which was an incredible collection of Americana including this steam ship which was hauled up from the lake. Also on the property was a U-shaped barn to hold a miniature circus parade, a two lane covered bridge, a Victorian home which showcased artworks, 23 gardens, and so much more. We saw about half of it.

The dining room aboard the ship.

My favorite from the textile collection was this hooked wool rug.

This barn showcased efficient farming design, and a fleet of cars and carriages from the past.

It was a great little getaway with friends!
