It's been a hiking week now that temperatures have dropped. First was Blueberry Mountain with Geri and Lyne. This was nearly 2000 ft of elevation gain over a mile and a half, so very steep. The views were worth it though.

Mistakes were made. Lessons were learned. The dark mud slick on the rock was made by my backside as I fell and slid down about 12 ft. Who knew wet leaves on steep muddy rock faces would be hard to walk on? Me, I knew, but just kept on until I fell. Just a bruised elbow and ego, though my back has had a twinge or two today. |
After the hike, we stopped at Paradox Brewery for lunch and had the best Pumpkin Hard Cider we've ever tasted. The food was good too, including my first taste of poutine.

| Pumpkin hard cider! |

| Beautiful fall day at the Brewery. |

When I got home, I had the beginnings of a fence. Yay for privacy! Wayne reported that my neighbors had a great party all day with loud music and laughter. Nothing wrong with that, but I don't need to see it! |
Monday included a nice lunch with Dale. I gave her my three Dahlia plants which did not make the cut for my garden next year. I also don't want the task of keeping them over the winter in the basement where they are likely to rot as much as stay dormant. I only deal with easy and hardy plants and the dahlias did not do well in my garden environment.
Tuesday - A hike to Pitchoff Mtn and Balanced Rocks was planned to help AJ and Geri finish their 29 peaks. It was a cool but fair weather day to go hiking. My tracker indicated a 5.2 mile hike with 1500 ft of elevation.

It's not a long hike, but the rock scrambling was tough. My hiking pole got in the way and I kept having to toss it ahead in order to climb with hands and feet. This was Geri on one of many scrambles. |
 |
Balanced Rocks Overlook was the highlight of the hike. I pushed myself to make "the leap" even though my legs were shaking. I'm very proud of myself for overcoming my fear!

Today I spent doing nothing much but a little shopping and letting my sore legs repair themselves. I took myself off of a hike planned for tomorrow because my body needs rest. No sense in injuring myself right before my trip to California.
The backyard work is still not done, but very close. Wayne says he'll finish up by Saturday. I'm watering the grass seed he spread yesterday, in hopes of growing back the lawn. That will be my little daily chore unless we get some rain!
What gorgeous scenery! You were so brave to make that leap. I couldn't have managed it. I would pass on the pumpkin cider but adore poutine. Yummy! It's wonderful to see work get done around the house/yard. I mowed my back lawn yesterday and did some weeding. It was quite a sense of accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteGood grief! I would NOT have made that leap - even though I could have done it with no problem had there been a one-foot drop underneath. Good for you, though. That looks like beautiful countryside. I have never heard of pumpkin cider or poutine!
ReplyDeleteTo be truthful, there is about a 7 foot drop to the rock ledge below, so not a life threatening leap - maybe just an ankle breaker! Poutine is french fries (chips) cheese curds and spicy gravy. A carb fest.
