Garden Fever

For three straight days, I have not been away from home. I've been in the garden pruning, planting, mowing, and mulching. Yes, I do love it and I consider it a "work out" as I hauled rocks, branches, and 40 lb. bags of mulch, rocks, and soil this week.

Forget-me-nots in a (purposely) wild corner of the yard.

This beauty is for the woodland border under the spruce trees. I couldn't resist the leaves.

Susan invited me to see the comedian Nate Bargatze at the Knick arena. We drove into Albany early to avoid the crowds, but ended up walking a couple of miles in search of a bar for a pre-show drink. I live six miles from the state capitol's downtown, but rarely go there.

The show included three opening comedians who were all surprisingly funny!
I guess I had low expectations.

I watched a Netflix special of an earlier tour to see what his comedy was about.
This live show was even better!

My roadside find for free, but the supplies for the rehab ran about $30.

The Rust Reformer stage of my project.

Voila! A patio plant stand.
I'm mulling over a few minor details that will make this more portable for indoor winter use.

One downside to all my garden work is biting/stinging insects. First I was stung by a hornet and my arm and hand swelled for several days. Three days ago, something (black fly, gnat?) bit the side of my face near my eye. My eye is still swollen and itchy and I'm not sure why I'm having such strong reactions to bites that never used to cause anything more than annoyance. Weird.

We are having a couple of 90+ temperature days, so I find 7am garden projects work best. This morning, I made this path in the rather unstructured garden to give it more definition, and to extend my coffee walk.

A newly purchased phlox of some kind for the woodland border.

Now I'm going to get ready for the little get away to Cape Cod. I've already set up a bike ride for the first day. The weather looks fine for biking and beach combing and lobster rolls!

  1. Your place is looking great! I too get into planting and neatening my yard in spring; there's some dynamic that kicks in when I see blooming trees anywhere. It's a lot of work but also VERY satisfying. In a very odd twist of coincidence, John and watched a number of you tubes of that comedian doing stand up and also playing George Washington on SNL (hilarious) I can't spell his name though!
