Home Is My Haven

I've had five blissful days at my comfy, peaceful home. I've never been so grateful for the time and energy I've put into making it so suitable for me.

The garden is coming back to life.

After one relaxing and nap filled day, I agreed to a quick early morning 10 mile bike ride with 4 friends before the heat set in. As with many of my adventures, it was such a beautiful day and it hadn't gotten too hot, so the plan evolved. We started off  on the Mohawk Hudson bike trail, and I showed them how it connected to the Albany Rail Trail, and before we knew it, we were 15 miles out. And it was getting hot, and we were getting hungry. So we took a little side trip to Emma Cleary's Cafe and had lunch on the porch. Delightful!  By the time lunch was over, it was close to 90 degrees and getting hotter. We high-tailed it back to our starting point in record time, but our 1 hour jaunt had turned into 4 hours, 30 miles, with lunch and 90 degree heat. Typical gal pal adventure.

Two days later, Susan and I headed out to Round Lake and the Anthony Kill for a little kayak trip. It was just the most beautiful morning. The pictures tell this story.

The heat wave was over and we wore our jackets all morning. Temperature about 60; crisp and cool.

The next 2 days were spent gardening and lawn mowing and landscape tidying. It is quite the hard job when you leave it untended for two weeks. So many trees and shrubs need trimming, rocks need moving, and perennials divided. My back and arms are sore after all day work sessions.

I've been away so much, these three have claimed the yard for themselves.

On a walk, I crossed paths with this girl and her friend.

Tomorrow I'm going on a sunrise paddle on the Mohawk River followed by breakfast in the park. Then I head home to drop off the kayak, pick up my bags, and head back to Corning to help with cleaning out Auntie's house, as well as clean for Mom and do her grocery shopping. It will hopefully be a nice weekend with family, but one never knows...

  1. Being at home in your haven sounds very restorative. I love the beautiful photos, but I smiled when you mentioned a quick 10 mile bike ride. :) That seems like a long ways to me. I bet you're glad that the weather has cooled down. I'm missing out on 60s and 70s which are my favorite temps. We're getting them here though finally. You have a whole bunny colony!
