Peace, Love, and a Side of Drama

5/26/22 The sunrise kayak was successful as well as disappointing. I awoke at 4 am, reached the launch at 4:45 am, and enjoyed paddling on the river in the peace of the early morning with friends. The clouds were disappointing as they dimmed and obscured the sunrise. We'll just have to try again. We enjoyed a nice breakfast picnic in the park before heading home by 8 am.

5/26 - 5/31/22 The trip back to my mom's was successful. We largely cleared out Aunt P's house, everyone got along, and that made for a very happy mother. We all pitched in to have an impromptu back yard grilling picnic and we all had fun. It was lovely to see nieces and nephews and accomplish a daunting task. We took a few walks, went overtown to see the Glassfest fireworks, and enjoyed family time.

Fireworks!

I drove home Tuesday, but stopped to pick up my niece from the auto garage. Her car was acting up, so she stayed at my house for 2 nights while it was being fixed. We had a lovely time and she arrived at her home in Vermont without any trouble.

I did get a text from my ex-husband's wife who wanted to meet me for dinner (!?!). I agreed because she's always been such a lovely person. It turns out she has been facing all the same issues with my ex that I did, only many times worse. I was truly sad for her, but she will be fine. I'm kind of angry at my ex for continuing to sabotage his life with alcohol. The whole thing was very triggering, but I am in a place of confidence and strength, so I'll just help out any way I can and support my daughter who is quite distraught over the whole thing.

As a friend said, "You could use a break from all the drama." I couldn't agree more.

6/3/22 My garden has started it's blooming season and it makes me so very happy to have my coffee here each morning with the hummingbirds, bees, and bunnies. And absolutely no drama!

Bearded Iris

Penstemon - hummingbird favorite.

Marigolds from Home Depot for color and pest deterrent.

Yellow Baptisia - a gift from dear friends with whom I now get to share.

6/4/22 I was supposed to kayak yesterday, but the winds were a bit too high to make that a fun activity. Instead, Susan and I headed over to the Berkshire Botanical Garden in MA, then on to ride 24 miles on the Ashuwillticook Bike Trail. It was one of those clear, cool, and sunny days that make me want to stay in NYS.

About 21 miles into the bike ride and ready to be done!

We finished off our day with dinner at Norte Azul Cantina just over the border in Stephentown NY.

  1. You have been doing AND accomplishing some wonderful things. The sunrise kayak trip still looked beautiful and I'm all about the peace, camaraderie and picnic breakfast. How does one take such excellent photos of fireworks? I've never found the knack. So sorry about your ex and that your daughter is stressed out by it too. There is such drama around alcohol abuse; I know from bitter experience.
