Some Like It Hot (Not Me)

Zinnia's being visited by a Spicebush Swallowtail butterfly.

Saturday's bike event, Ride The Hudson Valley, was a well marked, beautifully executed event put on by the Bike New York organization. Even though it was another 90+ day, the heat didn't bother me at all during the 33 mile ride. I think I've acclimated to the high temps and humidity. As I've been telling myself when I balk at the heat - just do it hot. 😎

Gearing up for the ride with 2 new friends, Patty and Sue Ellen. I love my hiking group as I've made more friends in the past 8 years than I did in the previous 30.

This was taken from the Walkway Over The Hudson looking south.

Taking a little break.

I think I've been covered in sunscreen for weeks.

Much of this ride was on the back roads, rather than the bike trails. It was beautiful scenery.

I think that's Sue Ellen behind me. Patty took a wrong turn and ended
up doing 55 miles. She is a beast.

Back at the party.

Monday was Susan's birthday and she wanted to paddle on Lake George, so we drove to Hague NY and then paddled to the Waltonian islands. We landed at a campsite and went for a refreshing swim in the very clean waters of Lake George.

The paddle to the islands was like a carnival ride due to the choppy water,
but the swim in a protected cove was perfectly calm.

A few sailboats were taking advantage of the breezy day.

A beautiful setting for dinner at The Sagamore with the birthday girl.

My three adventure pals at The Sagamore; AJ, Susan, and Ann Marie.

This week has also had me going to a retirement party for a former colleague, and dinner with some old friends last night. Today is a rest/garden day as I pack up for a kayak trip tomorrow, then a hike up a high peak on Monday. I had to say no to a concert on Sunday as I really need my rest days. Mostly I'm just filled with gratitude that I am healthy enough to enjoy this beautiful part of the world.

  1. What a delightful list of activities! The bike ride would be way too far and hot for me since I'm not at all acclimated to either one of those things. It is wonderful to make new friends in retirement; I've met a few through blogging but otherwise, it's tough to connect.
