A Bit Of Couch Time And Travel

8/13 - My siblings have always described me as being overly dramatic, and after yesterday I can see why. I had a little tiny biopsy chunk taken out of my scalp Tuesday morning and 2 stitches to close the gap. You would have thought I had major surgery from my behavior when I got home. I stayed on the couch for the day, alternating sleeping, reading, and watching old sitcoms. I got absolutely nothing done which is nothing like me. Thankfully today, after a good night's sleep, I'm back to normal.

I have read about bees snuggling up into flowers for a nap, but now I’ve witnessed it in my garden.  This bumble bee was cozying up to this flower in the evening, and was still there in the morning. I thought it might be dead, but it reached up to give me a high five when I tried to touch it!

8/14 - Have I mentioned how much I love tithonia? They are easy to grow from seed, up to 7 feet tall, and prolific bloomers, except when you get one that puts all its energy into foliage only. The cut flowers last for days in the house.
Butterflies and bees love them too!

8/18 - I'm back now, from my 4 day trip to my sister's place in Connecticut. It was such a nice getaway.
We met at Lake Waramaug for a paddling day on the lake the first day. She brought her two pack boats which I've wanted to try. They are very light, which I need to consider since my kayak is getting too heavy for my back. Her boats are much longer than I'd like though, so more thought will go into the switch to a pack boat.

The weather was upper 80's so it was very hot! We wanted to swim, but the beach was over run with geese and their poop. Since I have stitches in my head and poison ivy on my leg, swimming in tainted water was a no go for me. Also, just ick!

The next day was also beastly hot, so we went thrift shopping and I found earrings (new) and a well cared for food processor to replace my tiny and worn out one. Then we headed to Lenny and Joe's for a seafood lunch, then on to Hammonasset Beach State Park. We hiked on the rocks, we swam, and had a nice time sitting on the beach before we headed home.

Hiking by the shore.

Saturday started with a short hike, then groceries, then just hanging out at Theresa's playing games and cooking a pulled pork dinner. Her son Craig came for dinner and some very fun games of corn hole.

Yesterday we set off for Millerton NY. and rode for a few hours on the bike trail, had lunch and then said our goodbye! Time with family is to be treasured. I quickly showered after I got home and went over to Annette's neighborhood gathering where we enjoyed a nice time with folks we see often, but rarely get a chance to chat with.

Now I'm back on the couch. I gave blood today and had a bit of trouble - I got a trainee who missed my vein, so the trainer had to keep fishing for a good spot. All ended well; they got a pint of blood and I got over my wooziness but nothing strenuous for the rest of the day.

  1. You are more active than anyone I know so taking a day or two off is well-earned! I hope the biopsy comes back OK. I do so hate that word!
