Storm Updates
I went out for my first pass at about 5 inches and 6°F. It only took 15 minutes, but it was snowing like crazy.
Now all my gear is wet. Hopefully it will dry out before the next foray.
In the meantime I spoke to two of my sisters who are also snug at home. I plan to ski again Tuesday with Theresa in CT in nice deep snow! My other sister is hoping for a snow day tomorrow as she is still working.
Second pass with the snow plow at 7 pm and another six inches has fallen. It is really light fluffy snow so not too hard to get through, but it is supposed to snow for another 12 or so hours.
Third pass at 11 pm and another 6 inches? The big plows went by and left 4 foot mounds at the bottom of the driveway which my little plow will never get through. Lots of neighbors with monster plows like to help out though, but that won't happen until morning. The temperature has risen to 14°F so that is an improvement!
Before the final plow tonight and it's over a foot deep.
The little snow blower does a very nice job, though it could not make it through the botton of the driveway. Maybe in the morning.
It was so beautiful and. peaceful out that I walked around a bit. I almost took a walk around the neighborhood, but some howling coyotes put an end to that idea.

9am and it only snowed another couple of inches overnight, but it has started snowing again. I finally got to the hot tub which had the full amount of snow on top - which has packed down a bit overnight and some melted. I found out last year if you don't clear snow off the cover, it will melt then refreeze into a layer of ice so thick that the cover can't be opened and the water chemicals will go haywire. Therefore clearing the cover is on the list of things to shovel after a snowstorm.
It's deep!
I didn't get to stay out very long as my fingers started to freeze, so I broke out the serious ski gloves with hand warmers inside. It's going to be a while until the possibility of driving anywhere becomes sensible.
The road crews will undoubtedly deposit another load of deep snow at the bottom of the driveway for me to work through. That's my activity for the day all set! The best news of all is that the power stayed on through this storm - so far. 🤞
Last update - we have 18" or so and it will stop snowing in another hour. I just finished my driveway and the giant pile at the end. No one came to help with their giant snowplows, so I just persevered. Then my neighbor came out to tackle her doublewide driveway and two cars covered in snow, with a shovel. I was just about to come inside when all my anger at the current state of our country boiled up. I took my tiny snowblower over there and plowed through the bottom berm and got her driveway plowed out. She was so grateful and my heart is full. Kindness costs nothing and helps me get through this nightmare our country is going through.
That is a LOT of snow and so much work. I'm feeling very lazy! That's wonderful that you helped out your neighbor; I'm trying to be kind and helpful in small ways, in spite of my anger and fear about where this country is headed. I feel like I have little control.
ReplyDeleteSame, and when I feel most defeated, I make a phone call or two, do something kind - it feels small but it's something.
