Snow In April
Good morning April 7!
Almost every year it snows a bit in April so we should all be used to it. When it happens though, people act as though something truly remarkable has happened with all the news stories and social media posts of disbelief and almost outrage. It's tiring. Do people have such short memories? Anyway, the snow is melting almost as fast as it falls and spring weather will be back for good in a day or two.
And daffodils.
I've been recovering slowly from my trip in terms of jet lag. Two naps a day and still sleeping at night, seems to be the worst of it. It's a small price to pay considering I don't have anywhere I need to be these days. In conferring with Peggy and Geri, they also had an extra long recovery period from the trip. We really had such a great time and pretty much exhausted ourselves.
I hosted a movie showing Monday of Andy Weir's The Martian. My book group recently read Project Hail Mary by the same author and a few science fiction avoiders (I really don't understand this) found that they really enjoyed the book. I recommended The Martian which Geri read and loved as well. So in preparation for the Project Hail Mary movie Tuesday, we watched The Martian. I made baked stuffed potatoes to keep to the movie's theme and Geri brought an apple cake. It was a great way to spend a cold and windy afternoon.
I finally saw Project Hail Mary Tuesday and was delighted with the movie. The deviations from the book were quickly forgotten as the main themes of perseverence and friendship were displayed beautifully. I even lauded Ryan Gossling's performance after my initial skepticism about his being cast as Ryland Grace. Peggy and I grabbed a quick dinner at the Brew Pub afterwards before heading home in the cold and wind.
The weather is very slowly warming up, so I got a group together to ride on the Albany County Rail Trail Friday. We had a nice time getting our legs into the biking mode as we covered 18 miles at a leisurely pace.

I absolutely love a compass and this one is stamped into the cement. I wish I had one on my patio.
Today I spent a good amount of time on the garden. I spread 2 bags of pea gravel under the fence to facilitate easier mowing, and I started a leaf mould compost pile. The hours I’ve spent watching Gardener’s World have taught me so many gardening strategies. I’m determined to stop throwing away garden waste in favor of composting it. I also spent time just sitting and admiring nature with my coffee too.
What a lovely bunch of daffodils! We've also (rarely) had snow in April. Facebook memories help me keep track of weather and flowers so that I don't act like rain this time of year or fluctuating temperatures are unusual. LOL Jet lag is hard to recover from although it was especially arduous when I still worked and had to go back to school several days after returning. Ugh.
