The Days of Mundanity or Sublimety?

9/14/22

Haircut, shopping, yard work, paperwork. That seems rather mundane and not noteworthy, but in between are moments of true joy. Sitting on the deck admiring the lawn and shrub trimming on a gorgeous summer day with a glass of wine. Doing yoga for the umpteenth day in a row, and noticing that I can finally flow from one posture to the next, breathe the way I'm supposed to, stretch my leg up into a lunge without assisting it there. Progress feels great.

I've been saving a slab of granite from the kitchen remodel of 2012. It's been moved around the garage as I contemplate building or finding a base to make a garden table. The deck furniture I got from Sheila is lovely, but too much for the deck. What I really need is a coffee table rather than the two Ottomans. Inspiration struck on a rainy day. What if I took the cushion off one of the Ottomans and stuck the granite in as a table top? Voila!

The granite slab could not have fit better if I had had it custom cut!
And now I have a workable coffee table that I love.

Tomorrow is a 34 mile bike ride from Niverville to Hudson with Ann Marie and Susan. The weather looks great and I feel great. Let's hope it works.

Successful ride! The final mileage was 38.5 miles and I was tempted to keep going to make it an even 40, but the thought of a glass of wine on the deck brought the ride to a close. We could not have had nicer weather. I don't think we reached 70 degrees, but the cool air felt good as I was sweating with exertion the whole ride. We stopped at the 225 Warren Bar and Grill in Hudson for lunch; we sat on the street and chatted and laughed and enjoyed the street scene.

An exotic farm on the Kinderhook Creek.

The Athens Lighthouse on the Hudson River.

The most adorable setting for an English house next to an idyllic waterfall. This is the face I make when I'm trying to see what I'm taking a picture of on my phone when it's too sunny. Oh yes, I dropped my phone in Hudson and broke the screen. Entirely my own fault, so it's hard to be too annoyed.
This mural was definitely a theme for the day.

I drove to Mom's for a weekend of helping and fun. Sister 3 is also here with a friend from her work and Brother 2 stopped over so we had a nice wine hour with mom tonight. Sister 4 might have Covid, so she'll test tomorrow and stay away if positive. I'm hoping my immunity from having covid is still strong, so I'm not worried. We'll all meet tomorow for a morning walk and see what unfolds from there.

  1. Gorgeous sights! I loved visiting NY in the fall. (not so much in winter and summer) That coffee table is ingenious, but wasn't the slab heavy? I can't believe how far you can go. A 20 mile ride is long for me!

  2. That granite slab did test my strength, but I was able to muscle it into place without dropping it on my foot.
