Mid October

My new kitchen range is being delivered tomorrow so I can cook once again. I did plug in the broken one today in an attempt to steam a piece of fish. I also went shopping and bought a new set of pots and pans for the induction cooktop I'm getting. All mine are not suitable so I'll donate them.

I spent a nice five days with my mom, doing some home maintenance, shopping, cleaning, the usual. I got her out to see the foliage a couple of times and visited with the local siblings. Saturday we took a ride to Elmira, then on to Seneca Lake  on a leaf peeping and vegetable buying trip.

A very sparse Chequaga Falls in Montour Falls, NY.

Sunday, Sister 4 and I went to Angelica, NY so she could buy a couple of tables she found on FaceBook Marketplace. I was there to ensure she didn't become the victim of a serial killer. We stopped at a cute shop to search their very eclectic mix of antiques and more.

I made pickles! These were jicama, red peppers, and jalopeno.

Monday mom and I picked up a new chair and took a detour up to the Mount Savior Monastary to see the sheep and leaves. I bought a hat that was knit by a monk.

The Monastary's sheep barn and residents. There were hundreds of them on the hillsides.

Tuesday, Mom's card group was down one member, so I agreed to fill in since it is the only social thing outside family my mom has left. It was a hoot hanging out with the 85-92 yr old crowd. Two of them are mothers of my former classmates so I caught up on them too. I learned to play Hand and Foot while drinking coffee and eating chocolate, like a proper old lady!

Today I'm home and set up my indoor salad garden among other domestic tasks. The day was nice, but the wind! No biking or kayaking today. I got the results of my colonoscopy and while not worrying, it seems I need to make some improvements to my lifestyle (diet). So, I'm off caffeine/coffee and will make the rest of this month sober October. Sounds like fun!

  1. Oh dear on the colonoscopy! I had a few polyps (hate that word!) the first time but nothing since. Did they recommend those changes? They would both be painful for me, mostly the giving up of coffee. Your photos are stunning; the small towns in New York are so beautiful. I miss visiting my older daughter and driving through that countryside and stopping at some of those old places like New Paltz. An induction stove requires different pans? I never knew that!
