October Arrives
Monday - The fact that I have no major cooking appliance is really getting annoying, so I put range replacement at the top of my to do list. After too many hours this weekend spent at Lowe's, Home Depot, and a local appliance store, I was pretty fed up with the lack of service and limited stock I had run into so far. I finally decided what I was going to buy, and had one more local store to try. I hit the jackpot with a sales person who listened to my list of criteria and was not a jerk. He showed me some options along with one I hadn't thought of, and I bought an induction range (90% efficient) in less than an hour. I normally detest sales people, but this guy was not pushy, knew his products, and earned the sale. Yay.
Then I returned home and decided to (continue to) put the garden to rest for the season. The temps have been struggling to reach 60, so time to harvest. I picked the last of the arugula, some kale for the freezer, grape tomatoes, beets, and carrots. I also bought 2 rectangular self watering Grow Boxes for my indoor winter garden greens. I may add a grow light for the setup and that should keep me in salads all winter. Then I made a salad out of my harvest, plus chicken, blue cheese, and walnuts. Yummy and very satisfying.
I'm heading to Mom's on Thursday, and kayaking on Wednesday, so what to do on Tuesday??
Tuesday turned into a recommittment to my good habits via a habit tracker I got from the FIRE blog I like to follow. It's not that I have so many bad habits, I've just been neglecting the good. So, yoga, walking, no alcohol days and a few other positive self care activities are getting me out of my low spirits.
Wednesday found me headed to Paradox Lake which was smooth as glass reflecting the autumn colors. I got there early in order to practice drone flight and photography. Here is my best drone selfie shot on the dock.
Susan and I then paddled for about 3 hours and admired the clear water, the fall colors, and what a lovely day to paddle. We followed the paddle with a late lunch and headed home. I stopped in Schroon Lake, but the wind had picked up too much to fly.
A.M. and Susan riding along.
After the big hill, admiring the river.
We stopped to admire some inspirational are on the trail, perhaps meant to encourage the Marathon participants this weekend. It was a great day of riding, then I hopped in my car for a 3.5 hr drive to Corning.

The salad looks wonderful ! It sounds like one I would choose at a restaurant. Love the beautiful scenery and the reflections in the water. Hope the visit with your mom goes well!
