Monday 2/6/23 An old lock along the towpath under the nearly full moon.

My nudge word of the year is 'forward' and this week will hopefully exemplify that idea. Today started off slowly due to the worst insomnia I've ever had. I could not fall asleep, despite all my strategies, until nearly 6am which is more like my wake up time. I slept til noon then went about my abbreviated day.
I had a moon light hike on the calendar, so I set off to the meeting point at 4 pm, only to discover the hike started at 6 pm. Luckily my friend AJ was willing to meet at Panera for a bowl of soup and a chat until hike time. The hike was lovely - about 3.5 miles along the Mohawk Canal towpath and into the woods. The moon rose in a nearly clear sky as we walked, then paused to look at the stars and the steady line of 30+ StarLink satellites that were in low orbit overhead. While I've heard of them in the news as related to the Ukraine's internet needs, I didn't realize they were so easily seen moving across the night sky. It was a fascinating sight.

Next up in less than 12 hrs is a trip up to the Adirondacks to climb some low mountains for some fabulous views.
Tuesday 2/7/23/ I managed to prepare for this hike last night and actually slept long enough to feel great and ready to meet the mates at 7 am. We hiked nearly 5 miles on two peaks that were about 10 miles apart: Severance Hill and Swede Mountain. The starting temperature in the morning was 9 degrees, but by the time we were finished hiking it was well into the 30's.

While no one was fast enough to take a photo, we spotted a cute ermine like this running across the trail.
Wednesday 2/8/23
No word yet on the bathroom remodel and I'm getting a bit frustrated. I'll have to be a nudge and ask for an update / estimate on the project start date / contract. On my end, I went out and bought a gallon of ceiling white paint to get the closet started. Tomorrow is going to be a windy & rainy day, so I'll get out the spackle and roller and get that started.
Thursday 2/9/23
I'm still moving forward! After removing 75% of my closet contents I've started removing the wire shelving, repairing a few cracks and filling holes. After getting this far, it seems obvious that I need to get rid of the rest of the shelving and move the dresser out too. It's a good thing I'm in no hurry.
I took a nice long walk in the freezing rain this morning to get a little physical activity in. I definitely need to move that up on my priority list. The duck crowd was visited by a swan who looked like they were trying to befriend the ducks. More excavating was going on at the beach for the new building there. Even though we're in the thick pause of winter, life moves on.
I love your winter hikes! I need to gear up and go farther afield for my walks. Although any exercise is good, right? You have a huge closet! It will feel great to get the work done but unfortunately, the squeaky wheel does get the grease. Squeak louder!
