Recovery Days

It's been a long 5 days of not doing much. All my rest after last weeks hiking has healed pretty much everything, except both of my shoulders which are still a bit sore. I hear my hiking companions talk of rotator cuff injuries and wonder. I really don't want another failing body part - the knee is enough! I'm trying my best to give them both rest, but it's hard when there is work to be done.

Saturday, Annette and I went to the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market. It's been 5 years since I went to the winter market, and as I remember it was really small and disappointing. It has really changed for the better! There were at least a hundred vendors on two floors, and even some live music. We were there about an hour; it was enjoyable and of course I did not need that coconut rum cake I bought.

Apples, mushrooms, and root veggies on offer.

I've spent a lot time consuming media - I'm trying to read my way through A Gentleman In Moscow. It is entertaining and educational, but a slog. I've watched The Last Of Us (HBOmax) which was really well done for an apocalypse series. Apparently it is based on a video game. Also Whitestable Pearl on Acorn because who doesn't love a British Crime Drama?

Today was another 50 F day, so I loaded up the bike and did 21 miles on the Electric Rail Trail. While I've been scanning the woods for owls, I saw a bald eagle instead along with a Great Blue Heron. The parts of the trail that are packed gravel are really soft as they thaw, so really hard pedaling. Instead of sticking to the trail, I took several crossroads just to stay on pavement and to see where they went. I found my way around Kinderhook Lake, but no place to put in a kayak. Loads of people were out walking but just a few bikers.

Lone house on an island in Kinderhook lake - such mystery.

Reminder to get a better gear bag w/ phone mount because I love data!

Eagles are becoming commonplace these days, but spotting one still gives me a thrill.

  1. Great job on the biking challenge so far. Does someone live in that house? It looks completely cut off from the photo. I love Farmers' Markets although strangely, I rarely go to the one in my own town. I would run into too many people I know and am not always in a social mood.
