Gobsmacked

Friday 8/18

The Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra put on the best performance of classical music I have ever seen. I enjoyed it immensely and the free ice cream before hand didn't hurt.

Sunday 8/20

Queensbury in Warren County made a beautiful backdrop to today's bike ride with Susan. We did a hard 34 miles up and down hills the entire way (1500 ft elevation) in just under 3 hours. I was exhausted, but pleased with myself. It was the hardest ride I've ever done.

The halfway point on the Champlain Canal Lock #9.

Seventeen miles in and the temperature was rising.

An adorable little chapel on the route.

The chapel was nicely decorated both inside and out.

Clowning around a bit.

This was near the end - I was ready to be done with the hills.
I'll definitely be getting an e-bike someday.

Thursday 8/24

The surgery on my lip went well yesterday, according to the Dr., but I was left gobsmacked by the aftermath. I guess I expected it would be just slightly more invasive than the biopsy, with a band aid on my lip. In reality I now have stitches from my nostril up to and including my lip. My face is swollen and I'm on a soft food diet/restricted activity for a week. Don't these folks know I had plans? I was going to another appt today (I cancelled as my friend was driving me home), and even hoping to get to the Train concert tonight (laughable). I was also going to my mom's this weekend with my bike (no and no).

Instead I am installed on my couch learning about wound care, ordering groceries, and reading a book, alternating with binge watching Gilmore Girls. Luckily I spent Monday and Tuesday mowing the yard, cleaning the house, and getting financial work done. At least I have a clean house to recuperate in. The good news is I only needed pain medication yesterday after the surgery, but not at all today.

My latest planting of salad greens - spinach, beet greens, arugula.

I plucked this jar out of the donation box - it worked great for pouring my smoothie into the functional side of my mouth - no straws, as that would interfere with the stitches. The fun just doesn't stop.

  1. What a gorgeous chapel! The bike ride sounds hard; I've been spoiled by John's e-bike. I try not to use the assist very much, but for hills I have to. (they're heavy bikes too) Your poor face and lip. :( At least you got lots accomplished beforehand. I'm reminded that I need to water again and mow in a few days. One seems to lead to the other! Hope you're soon back to your regular schedule!
