Recalibrating

My seed grown marigolds are in full flower and add a nice pop of orange to
my pink and yellow garden palette.

Today is my fifth day at home and I'm doing little in the way of physical activity, but lots of mental rebooting. Not much socializing aside from lunch with my friends and a bonfire on the bricks with Annette. The lawn is mowed (mostly), laundry is done, and my yoga practice is back to an almost daily habit, as are daily walks. Oh yes, one day I got out the saw and loppers and trimmed trees and shrubs which have been annoying me all summer - very therapeutic! Well, now that I look back at what I accomplished, physical activity is mental therapy for me.

I grew two cabbages!! The garden has been quite neglected so far,
and the independent plants are the survivors.

Reading by the fire for an hour, before it turned into wine by the fire for another hour. Bliss.

A group bike ride got cancelled today due to weather that has not really materialized, so I'll go and do the ride solo in about a half hour. Then a group of 10 friends are going to see the Philadelphia Orchestra tonight at SPAC - inside - rather than the lawn. The theme is 2001, A Space Odyssey.

The weather has been really odd for August. We are set to break another rainfall record - hence all the lawn mowing - and the temps have been in the 70's rather than 80's - 90's. Don't think for a minute that I'm complaining about that, but the humidity means my hair is a near constant frizz ball and slathering it with product and clipping it up is my go to hairstyle this summer.

The Normanskill is high, fast, and muddy.

The bike ride went well and I passed 600 miles!

  1. I love 70s but NOT with high humidity. I hate that clammy sweat feeling. It's been too hot to do a lot outside (mid 90s) but it's now 75 so I got out for a walk and mowed the front lawn. As you say, physical exercise is our mental exercise!
