Amyjean deserves heaps of credit for organizing a fun filled mini vacation last weekend. She organized it around Robert Neary and The Mystics who she has been following (crushing on) for 3 years.
First up, we met at the
Farmington Heritage Rail Trail for a bike ride. We met at 11 am and rode for two and a half hours for a distance of 26 miles. It was a pretty trail with lots of history - we learned this was a huge tobacco growing area and 2,000 acres is still grown here by the descendants of Polish immigrants. But it was very hot and humid. We discussed heat exhaustion vs. heat stroke as an indicator of our concerns on the way back.

We then drove to East Hampton CT and checked into our AirB&B, showered, and relaxed a bit. The house was very cute and cozy and we each had our own rooms so all was well. We then headed down to the shore for our dinner reservation at
Saybrook Point Resort and Marina. It was a beautiful place and we met Susan and her Aunt Mary, who she picked up on the way, to join us. The food was delicious - I had scallops with lobster risotto w/ corn and bacon.

Saturday was beach day, so we headed to
Hammonasset Beach State Park to enjoy the ocean for a bit. The others weent for a walk on the shore but I stayed back at the pavillion due to the heat and not feeling great. I caught up on the days news and enjoyed the shade and beach breeze.
Their walk was brief due to the continued heat and humidity so we retreated back to our rental for a snack and swim (AJ) before heading out to Hartford.

We parked near the Infinity Hall and walked through the rain and thunderstorms to
Salute restaurant. We had a couple hours to fill so we had wine and a leisurely and laughter filled dinner. I had a meatball salad which made me curious, and was perfect. Two huge meatballs surrounded by an arugula salad.
After a hilarious run through the rain to the venue, we settled in for a very fun and memory inducing show. The average age of the audience had to be 75 but there was lots of singing and dancing!

Robert Neary and The Mystic at Infinity Music Hall, Hartford CT. Happy to help AJ complete a bucket list item! |
Sunday morning started with breakfast on the deck then we packed up and headed for home with a stop at the Brimfield Antique show on the way. I've been watching
Live To 100: Secrets of The Blue Zones on Netflix, and weekends like this make me think we are doing it right to living long and healthy lives; except for the salt potatoes and bacon at the antiques show. 😆

| A raft of turkeys blocked the road on our way to the Brimfield Antique Show. I preferred the turkeys to the antique show which was too overwhelming to my senses. We were there only for about an hour. |
