Chilly Fall Weather

These chickens crossed the road, but it is not clear why.

I've had a nice visit with Mom, my younger brother, youngest sister and her family. I got in a short bike ride, but the weather was not cooperating with lots of rain, wind, and colder temperatures. Today (Sunday) I made banana bread for Mom's Sunday night tea and dessert with the family. After that I got bored and decided to head over to the Glass Center museum shop and bought a lazy susan, which I don't need but really liked. Then I admired the art glass, and met youngest sister for coffee.

Mom in her favorite spot crocheting a blanket for one of her grandsons. After resisting any mobility aids for years, at 93 she relented and has become reliant on her walker and appreciates its stability.

I see these glass sculptures in many museums. In this location, Corning Museum of Glass, it nicely mimics the real trees outside.

This beauty was about two feet tall and pricey.

My $10 lazy susan.

These colors were dramatic and the price astounding.

The luster on this set was pure light and shadow.

My sister and I were having a coffee in the cafe when a quick downpour resulted in a double rainbow.

Before I left on Monday, I got Mom all set to host her card party by cleaning, and then baking an apple pie. The pie came out beautifully.

Mom was hesitant to use a store bought crust, but it was pragmatic.

The drive home was delayed by a tractor trailer rollover which slowed me down, but I also had to pull over and sleep for about 10 minutes due to not great sleep at Mom's. I over estimate my abilities as I thought I'd be ready to wake up at 4 am to go on a hike, but I cancelled as I realized how very tired I was and that I'd need some recovery time at home.

A bad day for the driver.

Now I feel recovered and will set out for a bike ride then a little road trip with some friends tomorrow.

Bikers have to ride in the cage to avoid getting beaned with a golf ball. Zim Smith Trail.
Wildflowers are hanging on.

  1. Wow, you're over 900 miles! That's impressive. So is your apple pie. I find pies difficult although come to think of it, that's because of the crust. I love Katherine Gray's beautifully shadowed glass. I'm glad you listened to your body and rested.
