Again With The Winter

The crocus survived the ice storm and s l o w l y spring seems to be happening. Planting all the bulbs last fall was so successful, that I'm going to buy some stakes to mark the next planting spots.

I'm trying to figure out my next steps in life and not doing very well, as in I don't know where I'd like to direct my attentions. It seems morbid, but if I imagine I only have a year left to live, and think what I'd like to do in that year, that should lead me to my next step, right?

In the meanwhile, I went to have my stitches removed on Monday, then met AJ for a hike at the usual Vischer's Ferry Preserve all the way to the dam. It was a nice 6.5 mile walk on a very spring like day. My scar still looks pretty rough, but like last time, a week or so more should improve things quite a bit.

The dam at the far end of the towpath.

While I was out walking, the garage door guy called and wanted to install the new door the next day.

The old door was original to the house which makes it almost 30 yrs old.

The new door with a new opener that works so much quieter than the old. I'll have to touch up the trim this spring.

I went for a walk on Tuesday, and this was about the only sign of spring - buds on a tree down the road.

It rained most of the day Wednesday and was very windy and cold so no walk. Snow was predicted overnight, but I did not expect this!

This is the same branch as the previous picture. We have had more snow this spring than we had the rest of the winter.

These poor flowers have taken a beating - an ice storm last week and now snow.

I was suddenly inspired to tackle something creative so I decided to refinish this step stool from my Mom's kitchen. I finished sanding the top before I remembered to take a 'before' picture.

All sanded. Now I'm considering how to finish it - stain, paint, or get crafty and
go whimsical with flowers or other artsy ideas. Time will tell. It is still snowing
outside; I'm doubting the coming of spring, so I'm going to get projects done.

Yesterday my friends and I finalized a few road trips coming up. Five days of biking and such in Cape Cod at the beginning of May, three days in Burlington VT for another bike adventure, and three days way up in the Adirondacks in September to participate in a kayaking event of some sort. It is nice to have little trips to look forward to.

  1. You've had a turbulent time (I've been reading back) - how stressful for you. My lovely mum died in 2012 and I miss her still. Fortunately we had no family fall-outs. I thought our rainy spring was bad enough - at least we've had no snow all winter.
