Not Much, But Something

                                                                               Flowers!

I am so glad I planted 250+ daffodils last fall.
Did I know it would be just what I needed this spring?

I got them at the end of the season and on sale in mixed bunches. It has been a delight seeing all the varieties bloom at different times to stretch out the beauty. These tiny multi-flowered ones are so pretty.

I had to think about what I filled the past week with, as it seemed like nothing much in retrospect. I went on a group bike ride with the hiking group which was fun and nice to see old friends I haven't seen since the fall. We did a mere 16 miles but it got my blood pumping.

The book club meeting went very well and was much more organized this time. We discussed Trail Of The Lost about hikers lost on the Pacific Crest Trail and the efforts put into finding them. It was a sobering read and led to discussions of our own safety when out in the wild.

Not two days after that book club discussion I saw in the news that a man, who belongs to the same conservation group as me, was murdered on the bike trail that I bike solo on regularly! It is a mere 5 miles from my home. I'm rethinking all of my solo biking and hiking, but still refuse to live in fear.

My sister came on Saturday so that I could drop her off at the airport as she is spending a week in Florida with her daughter. She really pushed hard for me to join, but I just am not wanting to go to Florida on Spring Break with all the hordes of northerners, the cursed sun, and my devilish vertigo which is still bothering me. I kind of wish I had gone now though.

Sunday was another nice day on the bike trail with five friends. We biked 12 miles to Schenectady, walked around the Farmers Market and had lunch.

Happy bikers!

Not a mile into the return ride, my bike's chain broke apart and landed on the trail. I had spent the better part of Friday taking it to the bike shop to get serviced, only to be stranded 12 miles from my car 2 days later. After waiting over an hour for AAA - who will pick you and your bike up in this case - I gave up and called a Lyft driver who was there in 4 minutes. The $25 cost was well worth it to get on with my day. (AAA, you really let me down.) I did stop at a very large garden nursery and engaged in some retail therapy! 🌼🌺

Unhappy AAA customer.
I went back tot he bike shop early Monday morning where they fixed the chain in about 10 minutes - no charge. We discussed having a bike repair clinic for our group so I relayed that to the organizer and she is working on setting that up. It seems a good idea since I now have 2 incidents of bike failure in the past year. Of course it seems to happen at the furthest distance from my car! We often talk about learning how to change a flat, so now it is going to happen.

I finally made the decision to go to my niece's wedding in Aruba this August. My daughter and her girlfriend are going as well. The flights and condo are booked. We are meeting in Atlanta for the flight to the island for 4 nights. It will be so good to spend time with them.

Now it's back to the garden - the weather has finally been warm enough to spend considerable amounts of time out there and the lawn is just about ready for the first mow of the season. 🌱🍀💪

I spotted this crew on the little lake walk - cormorants are not really common around here.

  1. OMG, murdered?? Do they know why? That always worries me about bikes or cars for that matter--getting stranded somewhere, especially if there isn't a cell signal. Scary. That's exciting about Aruba. I'm not even sure where it is. LOL

  2. It took an autopsy the next day to confirm murder, but not a word as to motive. The police were doing a search of the river with divers looking for a weapon as I drove by on Friday. Very intriguing.
