Fair Weather Clouds

The clouds!

It's been cool here, barely reaching the 60's, but that is great biking weather. And gardening weather too. Saturday, Ann Marie and I did a leisurely 20 miles on the Electric Trail, and passed several runners wearing SB400 bibs. We asked some folks in a support van what the event was, and were told the South Bound 400  is a 400 mile relay from Montreal to NYC. Over 2 days. Yikes. We did admire the physiques of the mostly male (1 female) runners.

These two came right up to the fence to say hello.

A critter sunning on the asphalt.

I came across a northern water snake sunning itself on the trail, and we admired the many mares and their foals on the horse farms. It was a picturesque day with nice puffy clouds. An obligatory stop at the Orchard for lunch was a bit crowded with the Mother's Day flowers and plants being purchased from the greenhouses.

Mother's Day started with an unexpected crying session as I missed my own dear mom once again. I got busy with mowing both the front and back lawns which took over 3 hours. Then I hopped on my bike for a hill workout around the town - it is a great one hour ride which gets my heart pumping.

This azalea needs to be moved to a better spot, but I'm afraid the trauma will kill it.

The white one is my favorite.

This pink one is very healthy and full of blooms

Azaleas are blooming!

After my second round of vestibular therapy, it seems the vertigo is gone. The therapist thinks one more visit will do, even though I've been authorized 12 visits. I don't have much good to say about medical care in this country. If you have employer sponsored insurance, you're fine, but I feel both fortunate and guilty because so many go without care.

I stopped at the garden center and picked up some herbs and a lupine just because I used to grow them years ago. When I got home, my neighbor was out in front of MY house chopping up the branches from my weekend trimming, with a kitchen knife. He is Haitian, married, and speaks hardly any English but after 2 attempts, I related that the town will send a truck and chipper to take care of the branches. All good right? Then he said "You are very beautiful." which gave me a major ICK feeling. What the heck? I'm going to chalk it up to cultural differences but keep my distance.

Another gorgeous spring day and my major chore was to finish painting the railings and columns on the front porch. I don't sit on the porch too much, but now that it looks so nice, I'll do some pondering out there while enjoying the view.

I do love poufy clouds!

  1. That's great weather for biking and gardening. Ours is sunny and 70 which is nice too. (not excessively hot) I always forget: is an azalea a type of rhododendron? We have both of them here and I can usually tell them apart but they're very similar. My favorite one is the bright pink. My only rhody is Old Copper which is coral with a pinkish throat. I love it. I'm not surprised that you had a melt down on your first Mother's Day without your mom. So many memories!
