March!

Not much has happened this last week of February. I met Susan for dinner at a newly opened restaurant - The Painted Lemon. It was a nice Italian place with very generous portions. I made 3 meals out of the slightly too piquant chicken Francaise.

Sunday, Annette joined me for a short trip to Chatham to check out a rock shop - I was not impressed with the stock or the prices. We stopped at a few cute shops and a Farm market for apples so that was something.

On my walk - I had to admire this cats' choice of perch.

Monday I really needed to get outside to stretch my legs so I took a 5.5 mile walk around the lake. It was freezing but sunny and I wanted to get out before the snowstorm which is supposed to drop 5-8" tonight into tomorrow. (It was barely 2") In preparation, I then went for groceries and stopped at the library for a couple of books and a movie.

If I were still teaching, I'd just be getting home from work and it amazes me that I only get a couple of things done in an entire work day. Not sure how I managed to raise a child solo(ish), take care of the house, and work full time for the last 20 years of my career. I do know it would take an act of God to get me back into a work situation again!

I watched The Social Dilemma on Netflix the other night which was well done and explains the weirdness of my social media feeds. I am doing my own social experiment by deactivating my FaceBook and Instagram accounts to see what effect it has on my life. But seeing as I'm typing this on a Google product, the algorithms are already at work trying to get me back in. The big takeaway from the show - if a product is free, you are the product. Scary stuff.

I bailed on a hike in the mountains because I just wasn't feeling it. Instead AJ and I met at a community forest for a quick but strenuous snow shoe hike. It was 2.6 miles and just under 2 hours in a beautiful woodland. There was about 5" of new snow to hike through which tired me out. I spent the rest of the day reading and napping, I was so tired.

Bench by the pond seems to show more than 5" fell here yesterday.

This was a very small, but very pretty forest.

On Thursday, I decided to visit Mom and family for a week or so. As I was packing up, builder Ken called to say they would start the bathroom job on Monday. We discussed starting later, but in the end he stopped by for the house key and will get the dirty work done while I'm away. I have worked with Ken on many jobs over the past 20 years, he has many of the same crew members working for him, so I have no worries about them having access to the house. Anyway, my bedroom is now in the construction zone, so it's best that I'm gone. Oh yes, Ken said his crew would install the closet shelving so I don't have to. I planned to do that myself, but have lost my enthusiasm during the painting phase. I'm so excited for the renovation and thankful to Aunt Pat for her inheritance!

On the road trip the sky got very dramatic.

We are set to get a very precise 7" of snow tonight into Saturday. I'm kind of glad I'll miss it.

  1. That last shot is beautiful! I wish I had a Ken and crew since that's always been my dream: renovations finished while I'm gone, a relatively painless transition. Living in the midst of it is quite stressful. That's LOTS of snow! I think (?) we're done for this winter.
