Staying Out Of The House

Sending the drone up in the woods is a bit tricky.

The building crew are not slackers, that is for sure. They show up each morning shortly after 7 am and stay until ? I have been doing my best to be out of the house because the noise is loud and disconcerting, and it's weird having strangers traipsing around all day. Ken is not a stranger, but he usually just pops in at 7 to tell me about what's going on - dining room ceiling damaged (his crew will fix it) - and the pace of work. We also had a little therapy session as we traded our trials and tribulations with our adult kids.

Demo complete; plumbing and wiring in the works.

Wednesday the cutting and sawing was so loud, I grabbed my breakfast and left early. I had a hike planned to celebrate Ann Marie's birthday and to accompany Amyjean on her final ECOS trail patch quest. We hiked the Christman Sanctuary - short but very pretty, then the Bozenkill Preserve. That was a bit longer so we just about hit 5 miles before we headed over to the Farmhouse for dinner where Susan joined us.

I'm experimenting with the long exposure feature on my phone.

Fast water and melting ice today.

We made it.

More prep work completed.

Thursday was another 5 miler at Thacher Park. I really wasn't excited to do this one, especially on snow shoes, but again, getting out of the house was my motivation. It turned out to be a lovely day to be outside.

The downtown Albany buildings in the distance and my house somewhere beyond.

Friday I just wanted to stay home because I was so tired and discombobulated from travel and house upheaval. I only made it to 10:30 am, then set off on several errands which led me to a quick visit to Bennington VT to offload some cameras I've been storing for the past 25 years. I met two of the partners of the antique store I like to visit and heard about how they got started. I then drove a bit north to have a look around and passed through two covered bridges which Vermont is famous for.

Into the covered bridge. I'm not sure why these are considered special.

Ready for the tile? I really don't like the attic left open like that all week!

Today I planned to go on a hike in the Adirondacks, but insomnia kept me awake until well past 1 am and I would have had to awaken by 4 am to get ready. I've learned to listen to myself when all evidence points to "I just don't want to go!" So I didn't. I'm blissfully alone in the house today with a beautiful snow falling outside so I can catch up, clear away the bedrooms in preparation for new floors, and cozy up with a book.

Another 3 inches and more expected Monday. Hopefully the end of the month will bring some biking opportunities.

  1. Lots of snow but how wonderful to get outside! Whatever motivates us, even if it's noisy house repair. I've been there myself with all of my house issues last year. I could barely stand to watch the destruction. I think most of us have adult children worries/issues; they may be different but no one is immune.
