Upsloping

The snow storm that was supposed to stop at 9 pm Tuesday night kept going well past midnight. That meant I had to get up at 5 am to shovel, so the builders could get in. I think I shoveled that driveway four times for this storm. The total snowfall here was 21 inches. I haven't spoken to a single person who hasn't let me know how very done they are with winter.

Starting the final shoveling at 5 am.

I use the arms of the Adirondack chairs to guess at snow depth, but it got too deep!

I took a drive Thursday to do some errands and saw that just 3 miles away there was only 6 inches of snow. According to the weather folks those of us up on the plateau had 'upsloping' to thank for the deep snow. And I live just on the approach to the plateau. One of the guys working on the renovation had 31 inches of snow to deal with. The builders were duly impressed that I cleared it all myself with a shovel. I did have aching shoulders and abs for a couple of days.

As for the work on the bathroom and flooring upstairs, it is moving along.

The engineered wood is a huge improvement over the dingy 26 yr old carpeting.

Floor tile set. Can you tell how much I love stone?

I try to stay out of the house as much as possible, so I went to the History and Art Museum to give myself a little culture. I haven't been there since I took my daughter when she was about 8 and a reporter took a photo of us for the newspaper which delighted her. It's a nice little museum with a large Hudson River School painting collection along with an Egyptian mummy and other artifacts.

Daughter's favorite was the mummy room - she spent most of her visiting time here during her Egyptian phase.

Of the eighty paintings in the collection, this one captures the feeling of home in the Hudson Valley the most for me.

This statue is of a Native American contemplating Christianity (a cross). I just see the face of skepticism.

Meanwhile, the renovations are getting exciting. I can move back into one of the bedrooms now that the floors are done. The bathroom is still a few weeks away due to the glass walls needing to be measured,   cut, and installed once the tile work is done.

Progress!

  1. That's looking gorgeous! Is that manufactured hardwood? I have some of that upstairs. I had high end vinyl plank put down at my rental; it looks great too. There are so many options these days. The snow looks pretty but there is WAY too much of it!
