April Showers And Home Time

 Sunday 4/23/23

Today brought hour after hour of rain, but it stopped for a couple of hours when I dashed out for a 4.5 mile walk just before dark. It was only me and the birds though.

Great blue heron

Mallard among the skunk cabbage.

I think this was an eagle. Maybe an osprey.

Several people are keeping chickens in the area. They came out to say hello
before scurrying back to the coop.

Pretty birds, but those spikes!

Well the bathroom is officially finished! Dan came by today to finish the tile and sand the dining room ceiling. I have to paint it, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem. I know Ken said his guys would do it, and they should, but it's not worth pissing off a good contractor who gives me a good price for all the work he does. He is under the impression that I'm a financially strapped (thankfully I'm not!) retired teacher and I do not correct his misconception. Is that terrible of me? Ken said he'd bring over the final bill and have a glass of wine to celebrate. I don't mind if I do - he's quite a hoot to hang out with. đŸ˜‰

I'm at a loss as to how to fill the afternoon - paint yet another door, bike ride, garden? It doesn't help that it's chilly out, but those 15 bags of mulch aren't going to spread themselves. And there is something very Zen about gardening...

I ended up painting a door and gardening, as well as grocery shopping. I ran into a former teaching colleague and friend, so we made plans to lunch with the old gang in a couple of weeks - yeah for long time friends!

Another day with no specific plans and the temperature barely hit 50, so I was reluctant to bike. I hung the door that had dried overnight and looked around the house. I decided to paint the dining room ceiling so I could put that room back together. The painting only took 20 minutes, but that propelled me into full cleaning mode. I spent the rest of the day cleaning floors, furniture, and windows of all the construction dust that had settled throughout the house. Hopefully my allergies will improve with the removal of all that dust. I'm not one for spring cleaning, but that is what happened today.

Then I went on a 3 mile walk and am sitting down to a hard cider and blue cheese, proscuitto, and fig jam pizza for dinner in my very tidy house.

I threw some roasted sweet potato on as well to use it up. Yummy!

  1. Your bathroom is like something from a magazine and so is your pizza! That temperature doesn't draw me outside but it's 70 and sunny here, so I did mow the lawn and did a small amount of weeding. There is SO much more!!
