Maintaining

Walking, biking, and gardening have been on the agenda the past few days, along with wine on the deck with friends, and shopping a bit. I really hate the shopping. My eating plan is going well too, as long as I don't eat out too much or at least plan ahead. My salads are getting more inventive.

They say to eat the rainbow!

Mothers Day was spent on the bike trail with a friend. We did the Glens Falls to Lake George route for 19 miles in about 2 hours.

There are more hills so it was a definite workout. We took a walk around the village as tourist season seemed to be starting early.

Lake tours have started.

After our ride, we stopped for a nice dinner at Common Roots Brewing again. This time I had a Brussels Sprouts bowl with chicken - it was just perfect for me.

On the way home I decided to stop at the Wilton Wildlife Reserve to satisfy my curiosity. I've passed it so many times and each time tell myself to check it out someday. When I got onto the trail and saw the swampy area, I thought about bugs, but forged ahead anyway.

Mosquito breeding grounds

It wasn't long before I saw (and felt) the mosquitoes. I stopped to take a photo and was swarmed by the little buggers. I figured I should just walk fast and stay ahead of them, but it seems they had other plans. And yes, they can bite through tights! I cut my visit short and got back to the safety of the car and onto the road home.

Adorable little blooms

Purple ones too.

On Monday, I had appt with a permanent makeup artist. A little back story - when menopause hit a few years ago, I noticed in pictures that my usually full eyebrows were fading. "What happened to my eyebrows?" became my first response to my photos. I apparently don't look in the mirror very often. I researched eyebrow loss and found nothing other than it happens to some women. So a few years ago I found a microblading specialist and she gave me back my brows. I cried happy tears when she finished that day. Every year or two I go in for a retouch and she does a great job. It just means a week of little activity because sweating, the sun, water, etc., can cause the tattoo not to take. Now I just have to figure out how to keep myself from going crazy until they heal.

The before and after pics. I call them my aggressive eyebrows until they heal and fade just a bit in about a week. They are puffy and red now, but will calm down soon enough. I don't wear makeup, but I do feel better with this illusion of eyebrows.

  1. You are doing so well! That salad looks delicious and also BEAUTIFUL. I still have my brows but wish I'd never started getting them waxed. They are thinning, especially on one side. I'm lopsided!
