Meandering

Some of the early daffodils (Peeping Tom) and crocus are happy for the early warmth.

The second bike ride in as many days is in the books. Yesterday I needed to pick up some books from the library and I really hate to jump in the car for such a short trip. Instead, I found a light back pack type bag and hopped on my bike for a 10 mile round trip into town to pick up the books. Wouldn't you know they were three very heavy books so my ride home was an enhanced workout.

Today I met Amyjean for a ride on the Mohawk bike path down to Cohoes and the falls. Two sunny days in the 60's has everyone out enjoying our early spring. We covered 20 miles, stopped for banana bread muffins and a photo shoot at the falls. They are not Niagara Falls, but they are impressive when raging like they were today.

I think this is a mink I spied running on the hydropower works.

The spring runoff is in full force.

Today was all about getting the crown installed on my tooth. I worked myself into quite an anxious state as the vertigo always seems one careless head turn away from being triggered. The process took about an hour during which I used all my mental tools to stay calm and endure - deep breathing, positive self talk, and channeling my Mom's strength. I was so relieved when I stood up without incident and thanked my dentist profusely - she was just as worried as me.

I was so happy and relieved, I went grocery shopping, then for a long walk, before settling down to read on this grey and gloomy day.

I almost drove to Saratoga for the Summer Sports Expo, but I just wasn't feeling it. I knew a walk was on my agenda, so to change things up a bit I drove to the Tech Park to walk. There are a couple of hiking trails which I was only partially committed to, though once I got into the woods, I couldn't stop. So 4 miles went very quickly and enjoyably in 50 degree partly sunny skies..

It is too early for any green to appear - still winter colors.

There were many waterfalls and cascades as the runoff heads towards the Hudson River.

A textbook meandering stream.

I'm guessing these are frog egg masses I spotted in a small pond.

Sunday 3/17/24

I had a bit of a hurkle-durkle this morning and had to pry myself out of bed rather late. I did manage to rearrange furniture and redecorate around the house. Only one trip to Home Depot was needed for a stud finder, and I picked up a pot of tulips as well. I can at least enjoy them indoors where the deer can't eat them. I made a pot of Thai sweet potato soup using lemongrass I grew last summer. It was delicious and I froze some for my liquid diet next week. My pantry has a glut of black beans, so a pot of garlicky black bean soup is next.

  1. I'm so glad that your crown went well! Love the sound of the Thai sweet potato soup and am jealous of your biking. As you know, I missed out on a bike ride in our 70-degree weather. What is a hurkle-durkle? I've never heard that expression before!
