Oaxaca, Mexico, Part 2

All went well until day 5 when during morning yoga, a wave of vertigo hit. I immediately stopped and headed outside and made the decision not to go on the shopping trip to one of the markets. I really don't enjoy shopping anyway. I thought I was going to be okay for the next days trip to a waterfall, but during the night another vertigo episode hit which made it clear I wouldn't be going anywhere.

The lounge chair on the right was my home base.

Two days trapped in this little paradise was really quite nice. I got to know Meyja a bit better, ate healthy food, and did a lot of reading. The biggest fear was getting on a plane in 2 days to fly back home while recovering from vertigo. After the group returned from the waterfall, a dinner out in town was on the agenda, and I rallied and had a nice time.

Dinner in an open air restaurant, sitting next to the yoga leader, Sondra.
Some of the beautiful textiles that define Oaxaca.

The next day was our last full day, so we all went into town to enjoy the markets. I managed to find some Mexican chocolate to bring home, and admired the colors, and beauty of the market.

I found this bag for my daughter.
The inspiring and colorful art.

Travel day arrived and since we didn't need to leave for the airport until noon, Dale, Meyja, and I wandered over to a local cafe for breakfast. I'm glad I indulged in this feast, as it would be my only meal of the day!

I ordered a crepe, but they were out, so I settled for this waffle.

The two legs of flying went very well, but the layover in Dallas was a clusterflock. We had a generous 2.5 hour layover, but waiting in customs lines ate up 2 hours of that. Then going through security, riding the tram to the correct terminal, and running to the gate meant there would be no dinner for us! We made it, but I had to make do with ginger ale and an energy bar as dinner.

Over the mountains of Mexico. I caught a tiny glimpse of the waterfalls I missed.

When I finally arrived home at 2:30 am, I only had energy for a quick shower before collapsing in bed. And I made it without any more vertigo.

It was a wonderful and relaxing trip, and a much needed diversion from "normal life".

  1. Vertigo, ugh! I didn't realize (until I had a bout of it) how debilitating it is. I'm glad you made it home OK in spite of the awful layover rush. I've only flown through Dallas once and that was enough!
