Another paddle on Garnet Lake

 October 15, 2021

I just can't get enough of this little gem in the mountains. Ann Marie, Amyjean, and I set off to explore it just a bit more on this dreary weekday. As we discussed the possibility of rain as soon as we launched, the sky opened up and gave a little shower. It didn't last long as we huddled under a tree near shore to ride it out. Then it cleared and off we went.

The submerged trees were just as enchanting as I remembered, but the foliage just hasn't been very bright this year, supposedly due to a very wet season.

We beached the kayaks across the lake and went on a little hike to Lizard Pond (?). AJ and I brought hiking shoes as this was the plan, but AM forgot hers so she hiked in her sandals and got her socks soaked. The hike was a nice reprieve for our bottoms and the forest creatures were very pretty.

We stopped again to eat lunch at one of several campsites that dot the shore. It was a chilly day though, so inaction causes a chill so we set off again. The loons were still here, which made me very happy. I suspect my companions grew tired of me chasing the loons around the lake.

After about 5 hours in nature, we had enough and headed to Warrensburg to round out the day with a fine dinner are George Henry's.
