Good Day/Bad Days

 Monday 1/9/23

Today started out a bit low and aimless; I had no plans, the freezing weather didn't help, and a low mood was setting in. So I decided to sit down and figure out my tax withholding for 2023, which meant starting my taxes for 2022. I spent from 9 am to noon on the puzzle of Roth conversions and Income Limitations and finally was able to update my pension tax withholding to the correct amount for the coming year. I'll have to wait until the end of the month to see if it went through. In the meantime, my taxes are all but finished for 2022, with a small refund for me as well -yay!!

Just to get out of the house I took a bag of clothes to donate at the Doors Of Hope thrift shop and couldn't believe my eyes. A Kitchen-Aid stand mixer was sitting there just waiting for me. My sister has been encouraging me to get one for ages but I don't bake enough to justify the $400 expense. I grabbed this one for $50, washed it and it's a beauty!  I also filled out an application to volunteer at the shop since I visit so often anyway.

Afterwards, I decided to go on a walk to clear my head and look for beauty on such a cold, gray day. I walked off the road to attempt to capture an artistic photo and found a $5 bill on the ground. I got the shot, but...

I was going for artistic, but it's just meh.

Well, thank you!

While walking on and listening to a podcast, my phone kept buzzing with positive replies to a happy hour invitation I sent out earlier in the day. I found myself smiling and appreciating my life the further along I went. The setting sun also lit up the east and cast a pinkish glow on everything so all is right in my world today.

The lake has (almost) frozen over for the second time this winter.

I arranged to get the Shingles vaccine (finally) and ruined my day. I felt achy and out of sorts. 😕

Wednesday 1/11/23

I took a ride out to the Organic Farm store for some lovely fresh arugula, but they had none. I ended up getting some from the grocery store so I could make a whopping large bowl of Wolfgang Puck's cabbage salad. I'm pretty sure that is the highlight of my day. My hike tomorrow was cancelled due to a rainy forecast so I guess I'll just look forward to Friday with the Van Gogh Immersive Experience and then Happy Hour with friends. I really do not enjoy winter.

  1. That photo is far from meh; it's gorgeous and atmospheric. Love the mixer and that you signed up to volunteer. I need to find some opportunities to do so. How can you already do your taxes? I have none of my stuff yet!!

    1. Most of my tax info is available in my online accounts, so almost everything is filled in and just awaiting some minor details to complete the process.
