So Long January!

I seem to spend quite a few hours on this highway. Sometimes it's quite pretty.
I'm back from having spent five days with my mom and visiting with my siblings. There are many transitional stages going on with family, some positive, some hard, but everyone seems to be moving forward with the changes life brings. I enjoyed seeing my sister and brother in laws' new home renovations moving along. They haven't moved in yet, but are getting closer each week. It's a mid century modern ranch and they are keeping the renovations and furnishings in line with that theme. While it's not to my taste, it's really coming together beautifully.
My fitness took an absolute nose dive this week and I'm just disgusted with myself. I'm setting myself up for February to be transformational in all my habits, starting now. I have a few cross country ski plans and I hope to ride my bike today to meet my challenge for January. The temperature should reach 43 and that is about the highest for the next 10 days. I'm going to ramp up my walking habit as well as yoga.
Later in the day: January bike ride #2 is done. Yay me! 12 miles, 1 hr 10 min, and more hills than I expected. At 43 degrees, I wasn't cold at all so I took a bit of a detour which I thought would be less challenging, but turned out to be more hilly than the usual ride. The weather was supposed to be showery, but not a drop fell on me. I did have to give the bike a shower as the road salt is very harsh on the gears and brakes.

This pond is the site of an active gravel mine that I have never seen before due to leaf cover.

So much grit and road salt is not great for the bike, and it makes it harder to ride. It's like riding on a gravel path rather than pavement.
In the clearing out the house theme, I consolidated the Christmas decor, getting rid of the excess, and set up my basement laundry area to include a folding table and space for the drying racks. I almost never use the electric dryer because the heat is so harsh on clothes - especially anything with elastic or lycra. This also lowers my carbon footprint, humidifies the air in the house and saves on the electric bill. That's 4 wins for me. Oh yes, I can also stop using the living room as a laundry annex. Next project is going to be installing the closet shelving units, but I have to decide which ones I want first.

I didn't realize that about drying. It sounds like a great plan. Beautiful views although it does look cold. 43 degrees isn't bad though.
