Impromptu Ski Day
Late on Friday I got an email from the Pine Ridge Cross Country Ski Lodge that they were finally ready to open with 5" of new snow. I texted a few friends and only one had no plans for the next day. Saturday morning Ann Marie and I headed up the plateau, but my tire pressure warning light went on. Damn! I drove to Stewarts and filled up the tire and off we headed back up the plateau.
We were both doubtful that 5" of snow would be enough to ski on, but it turns out it was plenty.

Lack of ice in the streams indicated how relatively warm the weather has been.

Ann Marie hates having her picture taken, and I respect that. But I would have taken one of her in front of this stream.

I am not so camera shy. I only fell once going fast on a downhill when some leaves/roots tripped up one ski. I will feel the pain tomorrow.
At the end of the afternoon we covered 3.7 miles in two and a half hours of constant motion. Not a bad work out. Coming back to the car, I noticed the silver head of a sheet metal screw on the tire that was underinflated, so at least the problem with the tire has been revealed. Now to get it fixed... I may have to wait til Monday.
We headed over to the Towne Tavern for a drink and dinner to round out the day. I am definitely getting more comfortable with impromptu plans. I always worry that my friends will decline and I'll feel foolish, but I need to get over that because all indications tell me otherwise. As Ann Marie said, last minute outings are actually better because there is no time to fret over plans, you just get ready and go!

I too need to get more comfortable with impromptu plans! There really is no time to fret. I would love to do some snowshoeing or cross country skiing but it would be at least an hour drive to get to snow. Hope you're not too sore today.
