JFK To Chamonix

 June 17-19, 2023

I got a few hours of sleep last night, but kept remembering things to add to my bags. I set off for Ann Marie's house, left my car there and got a lift to the airport. We were met by another driver to take us to JFK which is three hours away. After a long day of waiting we took off about 9 pm for GVA. All was well until I ate the dinner. I fell asleep but woke within the hour feeling very wrong, dizzy, out of sorts, and gassy. After a few minutes I made my way to the bathroom just in time to violently eject my dinner back up the way it went down. I thought I was in for a miserable night, but my body was able to settle right down and I slept until morning.

Our hotel and home for the week.

We had no issue landing, going through customs, getting our bags and finding our ride to Chamonix, We rode with a couple doing the Tour de Mont Blanc, in which you hike all around the mountain, staying in huts each night and carrying your gear. I was glad we were not doing that. We arrived at our hotel about 2 pm, and only my room was ready, so we all went there, fell onto beds, and slept for 2 hours.

The Rose Du Pont Hotel and a favored restaurant.

Chamonix in the afternoon.

And at sunset.

We met our group on the evening of the 19th to get acquainted and prepare for the hiking days ahead. There were 11 in our group - Hansel from Nova Scotia, David and Justin, Pam and Mack, Ben and Teyeung, and Elizabeth, all from Australia, then us three from the US. Benedictine was our very capable French guide.

*I'm currently at my Mom's so I'm trying to get caught up on the trip but I don't have much time to blog.

  1. What gorgeous scenery! I would love to go to Chamonix. I've been to many places in France but never made it to the Alps. Not the French ones anyway--but the Swiss ones. :)
