Storms, Sunshine, And Everything In Between

Friday

As I predicted, I did not get much outside time today. The rain started before I got out of bed in the morning. It was not a steady rain, but a series of thunderstorms that marched through fairly regularly. I did some yoga, put on Spotify and had a solo dance party as I cleaned the house, and did some banking.

One storm produced a lightning strike so close to the house that my smoke alarm went off, I screamed, and involuntarily flung my phone across the room. I could smell the ozone in the air and my nerves were on edge, but no visible damage to the house or trees. That was so close the lightning and thunder were simultaneous!

The sky was very pretty at the end of the day so I sent up the drone to take a look.

The clouds were roiling!

A thunderstorm in town. I was well aware that the drone might get zapped out of the sky,
but I was willing to risk it.

Looking west towards Albany - the downtown buildings are visible.

Sunset over the Capital District.

Saturday

I have really grown to dislike grocery shopping to the point of just not going and eating out of the pantry/freezer. Well, I needed groceries so I opted for the pick up service. I love it. Instead of taking two hours, a quick 20 minute pickup is all that is needed. The store charges a mere $4 for the service and the usual arguments against it have not held up. They choose the nicest produce, they give me the option to substitute if something is out of stock, and I don't roam the store picking up junk food on a whim or momentary craving. The app makes it easy to maintain a grocery list as I run out of things. I should write an ad for them!

While looking for a card in my desk, I found this little construction Glenn left for me.

I met Amyjean for a forest walk at the Tech Park which was nice for the first 2 miles. Then we were stopped by a very large pond which covered the trail. The rain storms of the past 2 weeks caused quite a bit of flooding. We tried a few ways over or around it but all the rain pretty much obliterated that section of the trail. We ended up back tracking the way we came and this tine were swarmed by mosquitoes and other bothersome insects. We hightailed it back to my place where we made pizza and salad along with the reason for her visit - to dig up blue bell flower, black eyed susan, bee balm, and lilies for her garden. Now to bed because I have to get up early for a bike adventure with the girls.

Wild bee balm growing happily by the railroad tracks.

Beautiful garden weather today.

  1. Those drone shots are gorgeous! Many people love thunderstorms, but they scare me a lot. My cat hates them too. I use grocery pick up exclusively these days; my store doesn't charge for it and the shoppers all know me and do an excellent job. They know exactly what I like and follow my substitutions; if they can't, they call me on the phone.
