This day of the cruise is surely where they get the name from - Castles Along The Rhine. Part of the morning and afternoon were spent on the ship as it was easily the most scenic part of the Rhine with so many castles. So far, we had seen the commercial side of the river, sharing it with barges and tankers ferrying goods up and down the river. Today was all about the castles.
When we stopped for a couple of hours in Rudesheim, we walked through the town to the cable car and took a ride up to the monument. I started to notice the large scale of the German monuments here - they are meant to be seen from very far away.

After the tour guide set us free, Janice, George, and I went for a famous Rudesheimer flaming coffee. More day drinking, but it was fun. The preparation is a bit of a production, so they welcome you to film it.

When it was time to reboard the ship, we ran into a hysterical woman who had missed her ship by about 10 minutes. She was frantic and asked our baby captain if he could get them to return. He declined. Now really, this is nothing like missing an island hopping ship where you have to fly to catch up. On the Rhine, the next stop is likely 10 miles up the road and a $20 cab will solve the problem. I'm sure she soon figured that out.
Our next stop was a couple hours away in Boppard. I just decided to take a long walk along the water front and visit another cute German village. I snapped a picture of the ship on my return and headed off to dinner.
A drone shot of about half of the crew. There were 2 captains and the baby captain was all of 24 yrs old.

Missing the boat would be terrifying but it sounds like it wasn't that big a deal. Love castles! Seeing so many of them (like cathedrals) made me blase when I was in that part of the world. :) That's a coffee???
