We had the morning free and it was a market day in Lucerne. After a nice breakfast with Tom and Curt, I headed over to the river to see how Lucerne does a farmers market. It was lovely with all kinds of produce and crafts, but the river pulled me towards it. There was a dam that we glanced at on the first day, so I headed over to take a closer look. I also paused at the ornate bridge to look at the art inside. I remember it burned down in the not too distant past, so much of it is restored work, but still beautiful.

I met up with Dale and Dan, and we finally got to see inside the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Cleaning! It was very tidy.
Finally it was time to board the bus and head over to Basel Switzerland to rendezvous with the Uniworld's River Empress, our home base for the next week. I opted for the deluxe room which was perfect for one; I'm not sure how two people navigate the space.. I'm glad I didn't decide to bid on an upgrade because I spent very little time there - a sign of a great trip!
We all settled in, met the captain, then had dinner. Dan was especially happy because he loves all things marine and mechanical and has a river pilot's license himself.
After dinner we made a little trip off the ship to see the three corners where France, Germany, and Switzerland meet. We made an inadvertent detour through a nightclub, but eventually we got there.
For some reason, this picture is the perfect story of Janice and George.
Maureen, Janice, Maureen (me), Mary Elizabeth
I almost never run into others with my same name. Luckily she was lovely and a credit to our name,
And then we just got up to general shenanigans. I won't include the video!
What a lot of fun you had! The photos illustrate that as well as the beauty of Lucerne. How I would love to go back!!
